Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the entitlement of a former employee of the State Bank of India to pension benefits under the State Bank of India Employees Pension Fund Rules, specifically Rule 22(1)(c). The Court held that the appellant, who had completed 20 years of pensionable service before resigning, was entitled to the benefits of the amended provision of Rule 22(1)(c) effective from 20th September 1986, despite having resigned prior to this date. The Court relied on the precedent set in D S Nakara & Ors. Vs. Union of India, 1983 (1) SCC 305, affirming the applicability of the amended rules to the appellant's case.
