Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the Central Administrative Tribunal's decision regarding the compulsory retirement of Shri S.B. Ramesh, an Income Tax Officer, for violating Rule 3(1)(iii) of the CCS (Conduct) Rules, 1964, by exhibiting conduct unbecoming of a government servant through his second marriage while the first marriage was still valid. The Court found that the inquiry was conducted in accordance with the principles of natural justice and that the findings were supported by evidence. The appeal was dismissed as the punishment was deemed appropriate under the circumstances.
