Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, affirming that the respondents, Language Teachers in Haryana Government Vocational Education Institutes, were entitled to the same pay scale as their counterparts in higher secondary schools under the principle of 'Equal Pay for Equal Work'. The Court found no justification for the State's denial of the higher pay scale of Rs.2000-3500/- which was applicable to higher secondary school teachers. The appeal was dismissed, confirming the High Court's order for the payment of arrears from the date of the Single Judge's judgment on 15th July 1992.
