Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the promotion rights of Nand Lal Pant, a Trained Graduate Teacher, who sought promotion to the Post Graduate Teacher (Sanskrit) position. The Court held that there was no direct channel of promotion from TGT to PGT as per the recruitment rules, thus denying Pant's claim to promotion as a matter of right. However, considering Pant's long service in the officiating capacity since 1986, the Court directed the creation of a supernumerary post for him, allowing him to continue until retirement, while clarifying that this decision should not set a precedent for future cases.
