Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court dismissed the special leave petition challenging the Central Administrative Tribunal's order which denied Permanent Way Inspectors a higher pay scale of Rs. 1600-2660/-. The Court upheld the Tribunal's finding that the duties and responsibilities of the petitioners were substantially similar to those of other cadres, justifying the existing pay scale under the Railway Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 1986. The Court noted that the matter would be reconsidered based on the Vth Pay Commission's report, but found no grounds for interference with the Tribunal's decision.
