Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court dismissed the writ petition filed under Article 32, which sought to compel the Union of India to introduce a bill for including Rajasthani in the VIIIth Schedule of the Constitution or to strike down the 71st Amendment Act of 1992. The Court held that the inclusion of languages in the VIIIth Schedule is a policy matter and that the petitioners do not possess a fundamental right to demand specific legislative action. Furthermore, the Court found no merit in the challenge to the constitutional validity of the 71st Amendment, affirming that it does not violate the basic structure of the Constitution.
