Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Rule 5 of the Cadre Rules, a selected candidate for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) does not have a right to be allocated to a cadre of their choice or home state, as established in Union of India v. Rajiv Yadav (1994) 6 SCC 38. The Court affirmed the allocation of the respondent to Haryana instead of Nagaland, citing the government's policy to maintain a balance in state cadres by increasing the outsider quota to 66.2%. The appeal against the Central Administrative Tribunal's order was dismissed, upholding the allocation policy.
