Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the dismissal of applications under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure for quashing criminal cases related to the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1934. The Court found that the samples of Chutki Pan Masala and Chukki Mouth Freshner were adulterated due to excessive saccharin content, violating the rules in effect at the time of sale. The Court ruled that subsequent amendments to the rules did not absolve the accused of liability for violations that occurred prior to the amendments.
