Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, the compensation for land acquired for the National Thermal Power Corporation should be determined at Rs.8,000/- per acre, aligning with the Corporation's policy decision to withdraw appeals for similar land valued at Rs.8,000/- or less. The Court enhanced the compensation from Rs.6,500/- per acre to Rs.8,000/- per acre, affirming the High Court's decision on market value. The appellant is entitled to solatium and interest on the enhanced compensation as per the rates before Amendment Act 68 of 1984.
