Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that land acquired under Section 4(1) of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 for a housing scheme may be repurposed for another public purpose, such as a District Center, without invalidating the acquisition. The Court held that the change of user does not negate the public purpose of the acquisition, and thus the notification could not be quashed on those grounds. The appeal was allowed, overturning the High Court's decision that had quashed the notification based on the intended use of the land.
