Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Section 34 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, claimants are entitled to interest at 9% per annum from the date of possession until the date of the award, and 15% on enhanced compensation after one year. The Court also mandated a solatium of 30% under Section 23(2) on the additional amount awarded. The appeal was allowed to this extent, modifying the previous compensation awarded by the High Court.
