Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the admissibility of expert opinion evidence regarding typewriters under Section 45 of the Indian Evidence Act, 1872. The Court overruled the previous decision in Hanumant vs. The State of Madhya Pradesh, AIR 1952 SC 343, which held that such expert opinions were inadmissible. The Court established that the opinion of a typewriter expert is indeed admissible as expert evidence under Section 45, thereby allowing the prosecution to present such evidence in trials involving typewritten documents.
