Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Article 39(f) and Article 45 of the Constitution, children must be protected from exploitation and provided with free education until the age of 14. The Court prohibited the employment of children in hazardous match factories, allowing only packing jobs in safer areas. It mandated that children receive at least 60% of the minimum wage for adults, and directed the State to ensure recreational facilities, medical attention, and the establishment of a welfare fund for these children. Additionally, the Court required compulsory insurance for all employees in match factories, with the employer bearing the premium costs.
