Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, reasonable compensation for the acquired land should be Rs. 10,000 per acre, rejecting the lower court's reliance on irrelevant evidence regarding coconut trees. The Court awarded solatium at 30% under Section 23(2), interest under Section 28 at 9% for one year and 15% thereafter on enhanced compensation, and an additional amount under Section 23(1-A) at 13% from the date of notification. The appeal was allowed, enhancing the compensation awarded by the lower courts.
