Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the interpretation of Section 66 of the Karnataka Land Reforms Act, 1961, in relation to ceiling limits on land holdings. The Court held that the appellant's exchange of land, resulting in a total holding of 45 acres 30 gunthas, must be considered in light of the provisions of Section 63(10) which mandates that land acquired after January 24, 1971, be included in the total holding for ceiling limit calculations. Consequently, the Court upheld the High Court's decision that the appellant exceeded the ceiling limit and was required to surrender the surplus land.
