Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that in determining compensation under Section 23(1) of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, a multiplier of 10 years should be applied to the annual yield of the land, overruling the reference Court's application of a 15-year multiplier. The Court also ruled that separate compensation for a well is not valid when the landowner claims compensation based on the yield of the crops grown using water from the well. Consequently, the reference Court's decision was set aside, and the matter was remanded for recalculation of compensation accordingly.
