Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court addressed the issue of seniority among Principals of private colleges taken over by the Government and Government college lecturers. The Court noted that the Government's G.O. No.9 dated 11.4.1994, issued under Article 309 of the Constitution, allows counting past service from private colleges for promotion, provided there are no interruptions. The Court held that as long as the private college Principals meet the minimum service requirement of 10 years for promotion, no discrimination against Government lecturers exists, and the appeals were disposed of without costs.
