The Supreme Court addressed the issue of pay parity for employees of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) in relation to Nationalized Commercial Banks under the Regional Rural Banks Act, 1976. The Court directed the Central Government to appoint a National Industrial Tribunal to resolve the disputes regarding pay and allowances, leaving the legal questions raised in the writ petitions open. The Tribunal subsequently awarded that RRB employees should receive pay scales comparable to State Government employees until August 31, 1987, and thereafter, pay scales on par with employees of corresponding posts in sponsor banks.
