Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the validity of an alienation of land granted under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prohibition of Certain Lands Act, 1975. The Court held that the prohibition on alienation was only for ten years, and thus the appellant's alienation made 17 years post-grant was valid. The Court also ruled that the appellant's claim of adverse possession was not applicable against the State, as the title remained with the Government and the appellant had not asserted his title adversely against it.
