Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed whether the Andhra Pradesh (Scheduled Areas) Land Transfer Regulation of 1959 and subsequent amendments have retrospective effect on land transfers made prior to their enactment. The Court held that the provisions of the Regulation do not have retrospective effect, thus affirming the High Court's decision that past transactions, such as a sale deed from 1919, cannot be invalidated under the Regulation. Consequently, the appeals by the authorities were dismissed, upholding the rights of the respondents to the land in question.
