Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Section 11-A of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, if an award is not made within two years from the commencement of the Amendment Act 68 of 1984, all proceedings under Sections 4 and 6 lapse. The Court found that the appellant had been in possession of the land and that no timely steps were taken to finalize the acquisition, leading to the conclusion that the notifications under Section 4(1) and Section 6 were no longer valid. Consequently, the appeal was allowed, and the acquisition proceedings were quashed.
