The Supreme Court addressed the issue of seniority in the Selection Scale of the Rajasthan Police Service, determining that seniority should be based on the seniority in the Senior Scale rather than the date of appointment to the Selection Scale. The Court held that the High Court's ruling, which allowed a junior officer to be granted Selection Scale in preference to a senior officer, was incorrect and violated the principles of seniority as established under the Rajasthan Police Service Rules, 1954. Consequently, the Court set aside the High Court's judgment and restored the seniority list based on the Senior Scale.
