Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court referred the matter to a larger bench to address doubts regarding the decision in Bhartu v. Randhir Singh & Ors. concerning the ejectment of a tenant after the expiration of a three-year lease under Section 8 of the Pepsu Tenancy & Agricultural Lands Act, as amended by Act No. 15/56. The Court held that a landlord does not automatically acquire the right to eject a tenant upon lease expiration without adhering to the provisions of Sections 7 and 7A of the Act. The appeal was allowed, and the ejectment order was set aside.
