Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that claimants are not entitled to enhanced benefits under Sections 23(1-A), 23(2), and 28 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, as amended by Amendment Act 68 of 1984, due to the timing of the awards. The Court modified the High Court's award, setting aside the grant of these benefits. However, it upheld the entitlement of claimants to a 15% solatium on the enhanced compensation and interest at 5% per annum from the date of possession until payment or deposit.
