Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court examined the validity of the equation of posts for graduate teachers in the newly formed State of Mysore under the States Reorganisation Act, 1956. The Court held that the equation of posts must be based on rational and relevant considerations, and decisions made at the Chief Ministers' conference should be adhered to. The Court ruled that the equation of posts that equated Coorg teachers' salaries with those of lower-grade Mysore teachers was irrational, thereby allowing the writ petition filed by the Coorg teachers.
