Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, the market value of the acquired lands must reflect their advantageous position compared to similar lands. The Court found that the Land Acquisition Officer's valuation of Rs 92 per cent was inadequate given the context of previous awards for similar lands, which were higher. Consequently, the appeals were allowed, entitling the appellant to enhanced compensation, including 30% solatium and interest at specified rates.
