Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court held that in land acquisition cases, the appropriate multiplier for determining market value based on agricultural yield should be ten years, as established in Special Land Acquisition Officer, Davangere v. P. Veerabharappa & Ors. The Court found that the High Court's application of a fifteen-year multiplier was incorrect and adjusted the market value of the land accordingly. The respondents were entitled to a solatium of 15% and interest at 5% from the date of possession until deposit, while the appellant could recover the balance amount from the respondents.
