Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court held that the exclusion of Assistant Audit Officers, Group B Gazetted, from the benefits of passes and quarters under the Railway Servants (Pass) Rules, 1986, is not violative of Article 14 of the Constitution. The Court found that conferring special privileges to certain Assistant Audit Officers while excluding others in identical pay scales would lead to unjust results. The Court dismissed the special leave petition, affirming the Central Administrative Tribunal's decision that the petitioners were not entitled to the same privileges as Railway Officers classified in Group B.
