The Supreme Court held that the pay scales prescribed for senior scientists in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) violated Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution, as they were lower than those of their junior counterparts, thereby breaching the principle of 'Equal Pay for Equal Work'.
