The Supreme Court held that an appointment made on an ad hoc and contractual basis does not confer any right to continue beyond the specified term. Citing the principle that contractual appointments terminate upon the expiry of the contract, the Court ruled that the respondent's right to remain in the post ended after six months. However, considering the respondent's age, the Court allowed her to continue until the end of the calendar year, leaving open the possibility of regularization of her services by the appellant-institute.
