Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court upheld the settlement terms regarding the interim relief of 5 Million U.S. Dollars related to the Bhopal Gas Leak disaster, affirming that this amount is part of the Bhopal gas relief fund and must be administered accordingly. The Court found that the agreement between the American Red Cross and the Indian Red Cross Society did not alter the nature of the interim relief as established by the order dated June 7, 1985. Consequently, the directions given in the order dated February 15, 1989, were consistent with prior rulings and did not require modification.
