Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court declined to entertain a second public interest litigation regarding killings, as a similar case was already under consideration. The Court directed that the Union of India be impleaded for effective disposal of the writ petition and noted that the State of U.P. would ensure protection for legal representatives appearing before the Commission. As an interim measure, the Court ordered compensation of Rs 50,000 for each of the ten deaths, to be paid within four weeks.
