Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the case of college teachers in a minority institution who went on strike and failed to return to duty in a timely manner, leading to the appointment of alternate teachers. The Court held that the principle of 'No work-No pay' applies, and thus the striking teachers are not entitled to salary for the period they did not work. However, the Court directed that the seven teachers who were absorbed back into the institution should be credited with seniority for the period they were out of employment, despite not being entitled to salary unless otherwise proven. The alternate teachers who worked during the interregnum are entitled to their remuneration for the work done.
