Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the validity of a will executed by 'O' in favor of his mother and sister, which was contested by 'M', the wife. The Court held that the compromise decree from 1924, which allowed 'M' to enjoy certain properties during her lifetime, did not grant her absolute rights, as per Section 14(1) of the Hindu Succession Act. The Court affirmed the High Court's decision allowing the second appeal, thus upholding the limited interest of 'M' and the rights of the petitioners as legatees under the will.
