Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court upheld the interpretation of Section 20(b) of the U.P. Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act, 1950, stating that the entitlement to possession of land must be determined based on the entries in the Khasra or Khatauni for the Fasli year 1356. The Court clarified that an entry, even if incorrect, does not lose its legal effect unless proven fictitious or surreptitious. The appeal by the legal representatives of Wali Mohammad was dismissed, affirming the High Court's decision that the entry in the revenue records was sufficient to confer Adhivasi rights to Ram Kumar.
