The Supreme Court, under Article 32 of the Constitution of India, addressed the grievances of Dairy Mates and Junior Plant Operatives regarding their classification as unskilled workers and the consequent lower pay scales. The Court referred the matter to the Central Government Industrial Tribunal-cum-Labour Court to determine appropriate pay scales based on the nature of work performed. The Tribunal's report indicated that the duties of the various categories of workers were interchangeable, leading to the conclusion that the classification was unjustified, thereby supporting the petitioners' claims for higher wages.
