Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the rejection of the appellant's nomination paper under Section 33(5) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, as he failed to provide an attested copy of the final electoral roll for the constituency he contested. The Court clarified that the publication of the integrated roll is not essential for the revision of the electoral roll to be complete, and the final roll, once amended and published, is authoritative. The appellant's reliance on an outdated electoral roll from July 21, 1983, was deemed insufficient for compliance with the statutory requirements.
