Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the validity of the Central Government's notification extending the East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction (Amendment) Act, 1985 to the Union Territory of Chandigarh under Section 87 of the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966. The Court ruled that this delegation of power did not constitute an abdication of legislative authority and provided sufficient guidelines for its exercise. The Court affirmed that the adaptation and extension of laws to Chandigarh were constitutionally valid under Article 246(4) of the Constitution of India.
