Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that disputes regarding the right of worship fall under the civil nature as per Section 9 of the Code of Civil Procedure, allowing for a suit to determine such rights. The Court clarified that while the maintainability of the suit is established, it does not permit examination of the soundness of religious doctrines or rituals. The Court found that both UBMC and CSI share fundamental beliefs, and thus, the differences cited by the respondents regarding the right to administer sacraments were not substantial enough to affect the right of worship.
