Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that a student admitted to a medical college based on incorrect information from the institution's head cannot be penalized if the admission is later found to be non-compliant with university regulations. The appellant, who had been informed of her eligibility, was denied admission due to not meeting the required 50% marks in the P.U.C. examination, despite having passed the B.Sc. examination with 54.7%. The Court ruled that the cancellation of her admission was valid, as she did not meet the eligibility criteria set forth in the Karnataka Medical Colleges (Selection of Candidates for Admission to M.B.B.S.) Rules, 1985, and thus upheld the lower court's decision.
