Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Section 14(1)(e) of the Delhi Rent Control Act, 1958, the tenancy ended when the tenant-Company abandoned the premises, and the appellant's husband, or his heirs, had no locus standi to claim tenancy rights without a new agreement or novation of the original tenancy. The Court dismissed the appeal, affirming the concurrent findings of the lower courts regarding the landlady's bona fide need for the premises and the lack of evidence for a new tenancy. The appellant and her family were granted temporary stay in the premises until June 15, 1988.
