Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the dismissal of writ petitions challenging the rejection of applications for authorisation certificates under the U.P. Motor Vehicles (Special Provision) Act, 1976. The Court reiterated that only operators holding permits for notified routes on the date of notification are entitled to such certificates, as established in Adarash Travels Bus Service & Anr. v. State of U.P. & Ors. and Hindustan Transport Co. & Anr. v. State of U.P. & Ors. The petitioners, lacking permits for the notified routes, were therefore not entitled to the requested authorisation.
