Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Section 26(6) of the Indian Electricity Act, 1910, only disputes regarding the correctness of an electricity meter can be adjudicated by the Electrical Inspector. The Court affirmed the High Court's ruling that the Electricity Board was not competent to issue a supplementary bill while the dispute over the meter's accuracy was pending. The Court clarified that allegations of fraud related to tampering with the meter fall outside the jurisdiction of the Electrical Inspector under the Act.
