Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court examined the validity of the Life Insurance Corporation (Staff) Regulations, 1960, particularly regarding the retirement age of employees appointed after September 1, 1956. It held that the differentiation in retirement age based on the date of entry into service does not violate Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution, affirming the legality of setting the retirement age at 58 years for certain employees under Regulation 19. The Court concluded that the provisions were reasonable and within the legislative competence of the Corporation as per Section 11(2) of the Life Insurance Corporation Act, 1956.
