Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution of India, the principle of 'Equal work equal pay' mandates that employees performing similar duties cannot be discriminated against in terms of pay, regardless of differences in recruitment methods or temporary status. The Court found that the petitioners, who were appointed as supervisors in the Haryana Education Department, performed similar functions as regular supervisors and possessed equivalent qualifications. Consequently, the Court directed the State Government to grant the petitioners the same pay scale as their regular counterparts.
