Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court held that the differential payment of Special Pay to direct recruits and deputationists in the Central Bureau of Investigation violates Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution. The Court established that the classification of officers into deputationists and non-deputationists for the purpose of Special Pay does not meet the criteria of permissible classification, as it lacks a rational relation to the object of the law. Consequently, the Court directed the Central Government to equalize the Special Pay for non-deputationists.
