Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that Air-conditioned Coach Incharges-Attendants in the Northern Railway are entitled to overtime allowances similar to their counterparts in the Western, Central, and Eastern Railways, as there was no justification for the differential treatment. The Court directed the Union of India and the Railway Administration to implement this decision effective from July 1, 1984, and to clear all arrears within four months. The Writ Petitions were allowed, ensuring the benefits extend to all affected employees, including retirees.
