Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that teachers acquiring B.T. or B.Ed. qualifications are entitled to higher pay scales from the date of qualification, irrespective of their adjustment against posts. The Court found that the High Court erred in interpreting the 1968 order, which was meant to uphold the principle established in the 1957 order linking pay to qualifications. The Court ruled that the 1979 order was unnecessary as the entitlement to higher pay was already established, thus allowing the appeal and reinstating the original principle.
