Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Section 64-C of the Tamil Nadu Estates (Abolition and Conversion into Ryotwari) Act, 1948, the jurisdiction of civil courts to determine the nature of land for which a Ryotwari Patta is sought is barred. The Court affirmed the lower courts' findings that the land in question was ryoti land and that the assignment of Kudi rights by the Zamindar was valid. The appeal by the State of Tamil Nadu was dismissed, upholding the respondent's title and right to possession.
