Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the Urban Family Clinic, set up by a Steel Plant and financially supported by the Government of India, did not possess independent existence and was effectively part of the Plant's administration. The Court found that the employees of the Clinic were to be considered employees of the Steel Plant for the purposes of service continuity, gratuity, and retrenchment. Consequently, the appeal was allowed, overturning the Industrial Court's dismissal of the Labour Court's findings.
